Yesenia Rosales

Yesenia Rosales, Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) Lead Instructional Assistant for the Extended Day Program, was recently announced as an Orange County Classified School Employee of the Year in the Paraprofessional Services category.

She is one of nine county finalists selected for consideration for state recognition. The award program recognizes employees whose work performance, leadership, dedication, and involvement with their schools and communities exceed expectations.

Classified workers are essential to the operation of schools, districts, and county offices of education, covering roles that don’t require a teaching certification. Each year, the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) recognizes professionals in services including clerical and administrative, custodial and maintenance, food and nutrition, health and student services, paraprofessional, security, skilled trade, technical, and transportation.

Rosales oversees and guides the district’s Extended Day Program staff at multiple elementary school sites, including College Park and Wilson Elementary Schools. A 17-year veteran in paraprofessional services at NMUSD, she is well-regarded for building strong relationships with students, staff, and the community. She consistently creates growth opportunities that help students develop socially, emotionally, and academically.

"Yesenia plays a vital role in bridging the connection between schools, families, and the district. She ensures that Extended Day Program staff receive the guidance they need, models respect and kindness, and fosters a positive, student-centered culture. She actively engages with students, ensuring that every child has opportunities to grow, whether through music, sports, or creative expression," said NMUSD Superintendent Dr. Wesley Smith.

OCDE will celebrate Rosales during Classified School Employee Week, starting May 18, 2025. The NMUSD Board of Education will formally recognize Rosales at its May 20, 2025, meeting.
